The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is stepping up early preparations for the 2028 general elections, with a renewed focus on youth mobilisation and internal unity.
Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has urged executives of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy (TESCON) to consolidate support behind Mahamudu Bawumia, positioning him as the party’s key figure for a political comeback.
Speaking during an engagement with TESCON leaders at Parliament House in Accra, Afenyo-Markin described Dr Bawumia as a dependable leader capable of driving a new phase of transformation for the party. He stressed the importance of building a strong majority, noting that the 2028 elections would require coordinated efforts from the grassroots to the national level.
“As we prepare for 2028, I am counting on all of you to work towards a common goal,” he told the student leaders, emphasizing discipline, loyalty, and unity within party ranks.
The engagement highlights the growing role of student activists in shaping political narratives and mobilising young voters. TESCON members were encouraged to champion the party’s message on campuses and remain resilient despite challenges.
Nana Boakye, TESCON President at the Christian Service University, welcomed the interaction and underscored the importance of motivation beyond financial incentives. He shared his personal experiences advocating for the party, stressing the need for commitment and strong internal support systems.
The meeting forms part of broader efforts by the NPP to rebuild momentum and energise its youth base ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2028 election.
