The Ghana Police Service has announced the appointment of DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor as the new Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) as part of a major shake-up in the service’s leadership.
She takes over from DCOP Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie, who has been reassigned as Commandant of the Police Training School in Winneba. DCOP Frank Abrokwa has been appointed as her deputy at the CID.
This high-profile reshuffle follows the recent appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Inspector-General of Police (IGP), signaling a new direction in the service’s leadership and crime-fighting strategies.
DCOP Yaako Donkor assumes office at a time when the CID is handling major unresolved cases, including the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale. Her leadership is expected to bring fresh momentum to cold cases that have lingered without closure.
She previously led an investigation into the death of Pooley at Nsoatreman, a case that drew public scrutiny. Her ability to handle complex criminal investigations will be put to the test in her new role.
With the CID at the forefront of Ghana’s crime-fighting efforts, her appointment is seen as a strategic move to enhance criminal investigations and restore public confidence in the justice system.
