Mahamudu Bawumia has begun mobilising the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party ahead of the 2028 general elections, declaring that the party can return to power if it starts preparing now.
Addressing student leaders before a three-day leadership boot camp on Wednesday, May 13, Dr. Bawumia said the initiative is designed to groom young party members for future leadership roles within the party and the country.
“I want you to be assured that this training programme is for your benefit because we want the youth to take key leadership positions,” he said.
He stressed that the party must deliberately equip young members with leadership skills to prepare them for greater responsibilities.
“And we cannot get you into key leadership positions if we don’t prepare you for the uptake of these leadership positions,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia expressed strong confidence that the NPP can reclaim power in the next general elections.
“2028, Inshallah, it is going to happen in 2028. It is possible. It is possible. And we are going to work towards it,” he stated.
He emphasized that the party would not leave victory to chance but would intensify organisation and grassroots mobilisation.
“We are not going to sit down and say it will happen, but we are going to work,” he said.
According to him, young voters will remain a decisive force in the next election cycle, making youth engagement a top priority for the party.
“The youth will take over the key positions as we move forward in this country. You know that the vote is largely youth-dominated. 2028, as it was in 2024, will be a youth-dominated election,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia also announced plans to deepen engagement with Tertiary Students Confederacy of the New Patriotic Party by visiting university campuses to promote the party’s vision.
He added that the NPP remains focused and will not be distracted by arrests or political pressure as it prepares for the next electoral battle.
