The number of Ghanaian pilgrims who have died during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia has risen to three following the death of a 52-year-old woman, the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced.
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 29, PAOG confirmed that Hajia Kubura Salifu passed away in Mina after suffering an acute illness shortly after completing the Arafat ritual, one of the most significant rites of the Islamic pilgrimage.
According to the Office, her family has been duly informed, and she was laid to rest in Saudi Arabia in line with Islamic burial practices for pilgrims who die during Hajj.
The latest death adds to the number of Ghanaian pilgrims who have lost their lives during this year’s pilgrimage, bringing the total fatalities to three.
PAOG expressed its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, relatives, and friends, praying for strength and comfort for them during this difficult period.
The Office also underscored the spiritual significance attached to the passing of pilgrims during Hajj, noting that Islamic tradition regards those who die in Mina as recipients of continuous rewards for their pilgrimage until the Day of Judgment.
It prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased, asking that she be granted Jannatul Firdaus and that her family be blessed with patience and fortitude in their time of grief.
