The nomination of Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Anloga District in the Volta Region has sparked a blend of enthusiasm and skepticism among residents.
While many celebrate the historic appointment of a woman to lead the district, others are questioning her experience and suitability for the role.
At the Anloga Market, traders expressed excitement over Kpedor’s nomination, viewing it as a win for women’s empowerment in a district where trading forms the backbone of the local economy.
“We are happy that a woman has been selected to lead us. We believe she will prioritize the welfare of us fishmongers and traders,” said Sister Adzo, a prominent fishmonger.
Another trader emphasized the growing role of women in leadership, referencing Ghana’s first female Vice President.
“It is the era of women in leadership. We will support Madam Sandra to ensure she delivers her best for us.”
Commercial drivers in the district also welcomed Kpedor’s nomination, hoping for improved local infrastructure and better policies to support their work. Many believe her leadership could bring positive change to the district.
Despite the widespread support, some residents remain skeptical about the appointment.
“We need someone with experience in public administration and local governance,” said a community member, questioning whether Kpedor has the necessary background to effectively manage the district’s affairs.
While her nomination has sparked enthusiasm, it has also raised debates about leadership qualifications in local governance.
Kpedor’s appointment is part of the 72 new Municipal and District Chief Executive nominees released by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. She now awaits endorsement from the Anloga District Assembly before officially assuming office.
As the district awaits the final decision, the coming weeks will determine whether Kpedor can win over doubters and deliver on the hopes placed in her by supporters.
