Wilmar Africa have lifted the University of Ghana Corporate Football League title after edging Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club 1-0 in a tightly contested final.
The victory capped a remarkable debut campaign for Wilmar, who showed composure and tactical discipline to overcome one of the competition’s most seasoned teams.
The final at the University of Ghana Sports Complex began cautiously, with both sides struggling to create clear chances despite periods of promising build-up play. Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club enjoyed more possession in the first half but were unable to turn control into goals, while Wilmar stayed compact and looked to exploit counterattacking opportunities.
After a goalless first half, Wilmar returned from the break with increased intensity, gradually shifting momentum in their favour as they pushed their opponents deeper into their half.
Their persistence paid off midway through the second period when midfielder Rolland Tetteh, wearing the number 10 jersey, struck the decisive goal after sustained pressure, giving Wilmar a crucial lead.
Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club responded by committing numbers forward in search of an equaliser, but Wilmar’s defence remained resolute, holding firm under late pressure to preserve their advantage until the final whistle.
The triumph sealed Wilmar Africa’s first-ever corporate league title in their maiden appearance, marking a standout achievement in the competition’s history.
In the third-place playoff earlier in the day, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) secured bronze after a 2-1 win over the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Goals from Kingsley Nyame and captain Tijani Shaibu proved decisive, despite a GCAA penalty equaliser and a missed NPA spot-kick.
The tournament was supported by several sponsors and partners, with the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate and RITE Sports Services overseeing its organisation.
