Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party and National Chairmanship aspirant, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, says ongoing legal proceedings will not prevent him from contesting for the party’s top position.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, he maintained that he respects the judiciary and consistently honours court appearances whenever required.
He stressed that he would not comment extensively on matters before the courts, describing them as strictly judicial issues that should be left to legal processes.
Chairman Wontumi also rejected allegations linking him to illegal mining activities, insisting that he operates within the law and does not engage in galamsey.
He reiterated his long-standing loyalty to the NPP, adding that his focus remains on helping the party secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
According to him, his ambition to become National Chairman is driven by a desire to strengthen the party’s structures and support its flagbearer to win national power.
He pledged that if elected, he would tour all regions and constituencies to address internal challenges and mobilise grassroots support, saying he would “serve and not be served.”
Wontumi further argued that the legal challenges he faces have not weakened his ambition, but rather reinforced his determination to contest and win.
He expressed confidence that he remains a strong contender, insisting that nothing will deter him from pursuing the chairmanship role.
