Political scientist and UPSA lecturer Dr. Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr has called for enhanced intelligence and security involvement in the monitoring of government financial processes, arguing that stronger oversight could help prevent disputes between state institutions.
He said institutions such as national security agencies should play a more active role in tracking the implementation of government decisions, particularly those involving the disbursement and use of public funds.
According to him, intelligence bodies are well placed to independently verify whether allocations have been released, received, and properly utilised, thereby reducing room for institutional disagreements.
Dr. Bomfeh stressed that governance functions more effectively when supported by discreet but firm oversight structures that ensure accountability behind the scenes.
He maintained that early detection through proper intelligence briefings could have prevented recent tensions between the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture from escalating into a public controversy.
He concluded that strengthening such monitoring systems would help improve coordination across government and safeguard public confidence in financial management processes.
