The Accra High Court has confirmed Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the successor to the Kantanka Empire following the official reading of the will of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The court’s confirmation on Monday, July 6, brings clarity to the succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the leadership of the Kantanka Empire after months of uncertainty and internal disputes.
The development follows the formal reading of the late founder’s will, which identified Akofena as the person to assume leadership in accordance with his final wishes.
Reacting to the court’s decision, Kristo Asafo Mission member Richard Brown, popularly known as Osebo the Zaraman, said he fully accepted the outcome and would honour the wishes of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
Speaking to journalists after the proceedings, Osebo stated that he had no reason to challenge the will if the late founder had chosen to entrust his estate and responsibilities to Akofena.
“If our father decided to leave all his properties to Akofena, I have no reason to object. During my previous press conference, I said he always valued peace. If his will clearly states that everything belongs to Akofena, then I have no choice but to respect that decision,” he said.
The court’s decision comes days after former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, reiterated that her late father had left behind a valid will to guide the administration of his estate.
She maintained that public discussions had wrongly portrayed the disagreements within the Kristo Asafo Mission as a struggle over inheritance and ownership of assets.
According to her, the central issue has always been ensuring that the directives contained in Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s will are faithfully implemented rather than contesting ownership of his wealth or the mission’s properties.
The succession process has, however, been overshadowed by tensions within the family and the mission, including a recent shooting incident at Akofena’s residence.
The incident left Sarah Adwoa Safo critically injured, with her family indicating that arrangements were being made to fly her abroad for further medical treatment.
The High Court’s confirmation of Akofena as successor is expected to provide legal certainty over the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Empire while efforts continue to resolve the lingering disputes surrounding the succession.
