With Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration fast approaching, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have begun intensive parade rehearsals at Jubilee House, marking a shift from the traditional Independence Square venue.
Approximately 50 officers are participating in the drills, which focus on parade formations, ceremonial protocols, and presidential introductions. The exercises are designed to ensure a smooth and dignified commemoration of the historic occasion.
A Cost-Conscious Independence Celebration
This year’s celebration takes on a more modest approach, aligning with President John Mahama’s vision of reducing government expenditure. By hosting the event at Jubilee House instead of Independence Square, the government aims to cut costs while maintaining the event’s national significance.
The theme for the 68th Independence Day celebration is “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” emphasizing the need for national introspection and strategic planning for the future.
As the rehearsals continue, anticipation builds for a celebration that, while scaled down, promises to uphold the spirit of patriotism and national unity.
