Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has sought to clarify the circumstances that led to his recent encounter with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), maintaining that the investigation in question does not target him personally.
According to the MP, the EOCO investigation concerns SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, which is represented by his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.
“First and foremost, it should be noted that Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has never been the subject of any investigations. Rather, it is SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, a company Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners represents and still represents in legal matters, that is under investigation,” he stated.
Baffour Awuah said EOCO first wrote to the Senior Partner of his firm on February 10, 2026, inviting him to appear before the Executive Director or his representative on February 17 to assist with the investigation.
He explained, however, that by the time the invitation was issued, he had become a Member of Parliament and was no longer serving as the firm’s Senior Partner.
“On 18 February 2026, I responded to EOCO, informing the Office that I was now a Member of Parliament and had therefore referred the letter to the Clerk to Parliament for advice,” he said.
The MP said his response did not bring the investigation to a standstill, as another authorised representative of the law firm subsequently engaged EOCO and provided the information requested.
He said the representative attended three separate interrogation sessions on March 4, March 18 and April 30, 2026.
According to Baffour Awuah, the engagements culminated in the submission of a formal written statement to EOCO on April 30.
“A lawful representative of the firm duly cooperated with EOCO interrogations, on three different occasions, and provided all the necessary information requested after which a formal written Statement, dated 30th April 2026, in relation to the matter was submitted to EOCO,” he said.
He further argued that the absence of any subsequent invitation from EOCO after the submission of the statement was significant.
“It is significant to note that since the lawful representative of the firm engaged with EOCO and provided the information and formal written Statement required, there has been no further invitation,” he said.
The Manhyia South MP issued the statement as his account of events amid controversy over his recent encounter with EOCO, stressing that the agency’s investigation, as he understands it, relates to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited and not to him personally.
