The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says extensive security arrangements have been put in place ahead of its National Delegates Conference and elections at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Chairperson of the party’s Organisation Committee, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, said between 3,000 and 4,000 police personnel had been deployed to support security operations during the conference scheduled for Saturday, October 3.
According to him, the deployment will cover traffic management, the hostels accommodating delegates and guests, as well as security within and around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Speaking to Citi News in Kumasi, Mr Karbo said preparations for the conference were at an advanced stage, with delegates already arriving in the Ashanti Regional capital and settling into their designated accommodation.
He said public address systems were also being installed at the stadium while security personnel had been positioned at strategic locations ahead of the event.
Mr Karbo commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Ashanti Regional Police Command for their cooperation and support in preparing for the conference.
He said the party had also been encouraged by the conduct of the various aspirants and delegates throughout the electoral process.
“The IGP has been fantastic so far; his regional command has been cooperative with us, and they have worked hard to deploy about 3,000 to 4,000 police force to help us with security arrangements and traffic within the hostels and also the stadium,” he said.
Mr Karbo expressed confidence that delegates and aspirants would maintain discipline and conduct themselves responsibly to ensure a smooth conference.
He said the NPP remained committed to ensuring that the conference and elections proceeded peacefully and without disruption.
“We’re very much ready for tomorrow,” he added, noting that the arrival of delegates and deployment of security personnel indicated that preparations were on course.
