Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Asanteman COKA, says the unity demonstrated at the party’s National Delegates Conference has strengthened the NPP’s prospects of returning to power in 2028.
According to him, the peaceful conduct of the conference and the cooperation among contestants have provided the party with an opportunity to put its internal affairs in order and focus on rebuilding its structures ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking to reporters after the conference in Kumasi, COKA said the support shown by delegates for the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was a sign of a shared commitment to rebuilding the NPP and preparing it for the 2028 polls.
“I am greatly fortified in spirit and conviction that Dr Bawumia will secure victory in the general elections,” he said.
The NPP held its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, where new national executives were elected to steer the party following its defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
COKA said the completion of the national executive elections would enable the party to begin its preparations for the 2028 elections early, including organising its parliamentary primaries and strengthening its grassroots structures.
“The NPP is poised to reclaim power because we have set our house in order early,” he said.
He said the new leadership must build on the conciliatory atmosphere that followed the elections by engaging candidates who lost and ensuring that personal differences did not undermine the party’s unity.
COKA also commended the newly elected executives for reaching out to their fellow contestants, describing such gestures as important to strengthening cohesion within the party.
He said the NPP now had the opportunity to mobilise its members around a common objective and develop an effective campaign strategy ahead of 2028.
“From the national leadership to the grassroots, we have assembled a capable team ready to market our vision and candidates across every corner of the country,” he said.
COKA expressed confidence that a united executive, together with the party’s flagbearer and grassroots members, could position the NPP as a strong alternative to the current administration in the 2028 elections.
