NDC Chairman Says He Sold 12 Luxury Cars to Fund Central Region Campaign

Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Richard Kofi Asiedu, has pledged to make the region a political stronghold of the party by winning the four remaining parliamentary seats if re-elected.

He said his next term would focus on consolidating the party’s gains in the region and expanding its parliamentary representation beyond the 19 seats he credited his leadership with helping the NDC secure.

Dr Asiedu made the pledge after filing his nomination to contest the upcoming regional executive elections, scheduled for November 14, 2026.

He expressed confidence in his chances of retaining the chairmanship, predicting that he would secure at least 90 per cent of the votes.

According to him, his record of commitment and personal sacrifice during the party’s time in opposition should be considered by delegates when deciding who should lead the region.

Dr Asiedu said he used his personal resources to finance the party’s campaign when many supporters were reluctant to contribute because they believed the NDC would lose the election.

“When everybody was hiding their money instead of financing the party, some of us sold our properties, took out our investments and invested in the party,” he said in an interview with MyNewsGh.com.

Chairman cites personal sacrifices

The regional chairman disclosed that he sold 12 luxury cars and withdrew money from his investments to support the party’s campaign, claiming he received no financial assistance from the NDC.

“Let me tell you something: I am a fan of cars, so I sold my 12 luxury cars. I took my investments out of the bank, without any financial support from the party,” he said.

He said the party had faced financial difficulties when he assumed office because some members were unwilling to commit their resources to its activities, particularly during its period in opposition.

Dr Asiedu argued that his decision to invest his personal resources in the party demonstrated his commitment to its electoral fortunes, adding that he sought to build a lasting political legacy rather than pursue personal financial gains.

“Some people joined the party to make money, but my goal was to make history,” he said.

Seeks renewed mandate

Dr Asiedu urged delegates to assess his performance and the sacrifices he said he had made before deciding whether to give him another term.

“I came, I saw, and I conquered, so the party should consider my hard work and give me another mandate to transform the NDC in the Central Region,” he said.

He cautioned party members seeking executive positions not to lose sight of the difficulties the NDC faced while in opposition, saying commitment during challenging periods should count in the selection of its leaders.

The chairman said he intended to continue strengthening the party’s structures until the Central Region became a reliable electoral base for the NDC.

He added that his long-term objective was to establish a strong and sustainable party organisation before handing over leadership to a successor.
