Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has been advised to approach his new role with seriousness and dedication.
During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on February 25, First Deputy Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, cautioned the actor-turned-politician against treating the ministry like the film industry he is known for.
“The ministry is huge, and you should assist your minister. This is not the movie industry—take your role seriously,” Iddrisu remarked.
In response, Dumelo, who is also the newly elected MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, emphasized his commitment to public service and inspiring Ghanaians.
“I want to inspire people to follow their passions, do what they love, and excel in their fields,” he stated.
Reflecting on his journey from acting to business and now politics, Dumelo acknowledged that while he had made strides in film and entrepreneurship, he was still working to establish himself in the political space.
“I’ve done well in the movie and business industries, and now I’m striving to do well in politics,” he added.
His appointment has generated significant interest, with many eager to see how he will transition from entertainment to governance in a key ministry that affects Ghana’s agricultural sector and food security.
