A leading voice within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Musah Mohammed, popularly known as Chairman Gawo, has sounded a sharp warning to the party’s hierarchy, blaming its 2024 electoral defeat on internal dysfunction and poor leadership choices.
Chairman Gawo, who doubles as the National Chairman for the NPP Zongo Caucus Communications, did not mince words as he pointed to greed, selfishness, and neglect as the root causes of the party’s recent political woes.
Speaking candidly about the future of the NPP, he cautioned that the party risks an extended stay in opposition if the current leadership is not held accountable and key changes are not urgently made.
“The party is being dragged down by individuals who prioritize personal gain over the collective good,” he stated. “If these leaders are not removed, we will stay in opposition for a very long time.”
While he stopped short of naming specific figures, Alhaji Gawo hinted that entrenched power blocs and decision-makers within the party had alienated grassroots supporters and ignored growing internal concerns.
He, however, offered a glimmer of hope, suggesting that the party could rebuild its credibility and popularity by empowering the right people — individuals who resonate with the broader electorate and embody integrity and inclusiveness.
Chairman Gawo’s remarks add to growing calls from within the NPP’s rank-and-file for a comprehensive post-election introspection following its loss to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
