In a clear shift that underscores changing dynamics within Ghana’s political class, Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Kwame Asare Obeng — popularly known as A Plus — has openly declared his long-term alignment with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), signaling a firm political realignment.
Appearing on Channel One TV’s Upside Down programme on Sunday, May 4, A Plus made it clear that his association with the NDC is not fleeting or opportunistic, but a deliberate choice rooted in shared values and ideological alignment.
“I am a member of the NDC,” he said. “I see myself being part of the majority for a very long time. I’m not here for a short ride.”
Though critics have questioned the authenticity of his allegiance due to the absence of formal party documentation, A Plus brushed off the idea that political identity should be tied strictly to party cards. “My commitment is demonstrated through my actions and public stance,” he stated.
The former musician-turned-politician also used the interview to praise NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, describing him as a “great leader with genuine intentions for the country.”
A Plus’s open support comes at a time when Ghana’s political landscape appears to be undergoing a generational shift, with younger voices like his challenging traditional notions of loyalty and political affiliation.
His remarks further solidify his break from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he has frequently criticized, and signal a growing trend of public figures repositioning themselves around what they see as credible and reform-driven leadership.
