Ebi Bright, the newly confirmed Mayor of Tema, has outlined her commitment to fostering unity and inclusive development across the entire Tema municipality, signaling a shift from her earlier, more localized political focus.
In an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Friday, May 9, 2025, Bright addressed public concerns about her ability to represent the entire municipality, given her previous political alignment with Tema Central. She emphasized that while her past efforts were often concentrated in Tema Central, her broader vision has always included the entire city.
“Over the years, it’s been difficult for me to decouple Tema Central from Tema in general,” she noted. “But the only reason why it was possible was because it was important to situate the area politically—so we could be heard instead of being marginalized.”
Bright, a former parliamentary candidate, clarified that her strategic focus on Tema Central was never meant to exclude other parts of the city but rather to ensure that each area received the attention it deserved. Now, as the city’s mayor, she aims to bridge these divides and promote a more unified approach to governance.
“My commitment has always been to Tema as a whole, of which Tema Central, of course, is a part,” she said. “So I am very honored, but I feel the weight of the challenge.”
Bright also addressed the public scrutiny surrounding her appointment, acknowledging the pressure to deliver meaningful change. “With all the brouhaha surrounding my nomination and confirmation, I think there will be a lot of expectation from myself and the comrades I will be working with,” she remarked, expressing optimism about the road ahead.
As the new mayor, Bright’s focus will likely include tackling long-standing infrastructure challenges, enhancing local economic growth, and fostering a sense of shared purpose among Tema’s diverse communities. Her approach signals a shift toward more inclusive leadership, aimed at addressing the needs of the entire municipality rather than just a single constituency.
