Ellen Ama Ofosuaa Daaku, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately sack Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following the emergence of a viral video showing him handing out U.S. dollars to Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
Speaking in an interview on Angel TV on May 13, 2025, Daaku argued that Gyamfi’s actions violate the recently launched Code of Conduct for NDC appointees, which President Mahama himself unveiled just two weeks ago.
“Just last week, Mahama launched the NDC’s Code of Conduct. Sammy Gyamfi is not just an ordinary party member. He is known as one of Mahama’s closest allies and one of his most trusted lieutenants,” Daaku stated.
She warned that Gyamfi could become a political scapegoat if he fails to manage the fallout from the video, drawing parallels to the 2013 dismissal of former Deputy Minister Victoria Hammah, who was fired after a leaked recording suggested she would leave politics if she had $1 million.
“Victoria Hammah was sacked for merely talking about money she hoped to have. Here we have Sammy Gyamfi, who not only has the money but is allegedly distributing it publicly. If Mahama doesn’t act swiftly, he risks appearing inconsistent in his commitment to ethical governance,” Daaku added.
The NPP communicator also issued a direct challenge to Mahama, threatening to escalate the matter if Gyamfi is not removed from his position within a week.
“If Mahama doesn’t sack Sammy Gyamfi, I, Ama, am ready. By next week, if Sammy Gyamfi is still at post, he will have me to contend with,” she declared.
The NDC’s Code of Conduct, which was launched as part of Mahama’s commitment to transparency and accountability, calls on appointees to maintain the highest ethical standards and avoid conflicts of interest. Daaku’s comments suggest that Gyamfi’s actions have become a critical test of Mahama’s willingness to enforce his own ethical guidelines.
