Former Subin MP and veteran NPP figure Eugene Boakye Antwi has issued a stark warning to his party about the pressing need to secure victory in the 2028 general elections. Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning program, Antwi emphasized that the upcoming election represents a pivotal opportunity for the party, one that must not be missed.
Antwi pointed to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s imminent departure after completing his final term as a critical factor shaping the political landscape. “John Mama is in his final term and will not be running again. This creates a power vacuum with a new candidate emerging. If we fail to capitalize on that opening in 2028, the consequences will be severe,” he cautioned.
Challenging the perception that the NPP naturally thrives on an eight-year cycle in power, Antwi disputed historical assumptions, highlighting changing political realities. “The evidence presented in court contradicts the idea of automatic victories after first terms. The political dynamics today are vastly different.”
He further underscored worrying shifts in traditional party strongholds. Regions like Western and Bono, once reliable bases for the NPP, have seen dramatic seat losses, while even the Ashanti Region shows signs of political fluidity.
To navigate this evolving landscape, Antwi urged the party to embrace unity and adapt with a renewed sense of purpose. “To remain relevant and competitive, we must move with the times and present a united front.”
His remarks serve as a call to action for the NPP leadership and grassroots alike to reassess strategy, strengthen internal cohesion, and prepare rigorously for the challenges ahead.
