Businessman Extradited from Togo Faces Mental Evaluation Amid Robbery Charges in Accra

An Accra Circuit Court has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for Adina-Akapo Abdou Moudjibou, a businessman recently extradited from Togo to face charges of multiple robberies in Ghana.

Moudjibou’s mental state has come under scrutiny after police noted alarming behavioral changes following his caution statement, including incidents of self-harm and abnormal conduct, such as consuming his own waste. Due to these concerns, the court has postponed taking his plea and remanded him to the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau pending further mental health assessments.

His alleged accomplice, motorbike rider Marzouk Alidu, who faces charges of abetment of crime, was granted bail but has yet to meet the bail conditions. The prosecution also moved to correct the charge sheet to reflect Moudjibou’s recent extradition, as it previously indicated he was still at large.

The case relates to a series of violent robberies, including a high-profile break-in on April 13, 2024, at the residence of Dr. Jemimah Asare Morjah, a medical doctor at Accra Regional Hospital. Alidu reportedly entered Dr. Morjah’s home through a washroom window, masked and armed, and stole $200,000 in cash, gold jewelry valued over GH₵40,000, assorted items, and a registered firearm owned by her husband.

Police investigations revealed that Moudjibou facilitated these robberies by transporting Alidu to the crime scenes via motorbike. Following a subsequent arrest of Alidu at East Airport in September 2024, investigations intensified, uncovering a wider network of criminal activity involving Moudjibou and others still at large, including an individual named Mohammed Djando.

Interpol assistance was pivotal in Moudjibou’s capture in Lomé, Togo, on January 30, 2025, leading to his extradition to Ghana in May. Despite an identification parade where Alidu failed to identify Moudjibou as his accomplice, Moudjibou’s own caution statement confessed to involvement in multiple robberies.

The court has adjourned the case until June 3, 2025, as investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the robbery network and the mental health status of the accused.
