Kwame Asare Obeng, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, widely known as A Plus, has denied ever labeling Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine as corrupt or a thief. He explained that a fake social media account had been used to post such allegations, clarifying that he had no involvement with or control over the account.
In a statement released on his verified Facebook page, A Plus emphasized that his official comments regarding the sanitation levy were available on his legitimate profile, where his remarks remain clear and professional. “My official remarks regarding the passage of the sanitation levy remain available on my verified Facebook page. They are clear, measured, and accessible to the general public,” he stated. He expressed disappointment over the impersonation, claiming it was aimed at causing confusion and stirring unnecessary tension.
A Plus took the opportunity to apologize to Dr. Ayine for the insulting content that had been posted on the fake account. He acknowledged the frustration the Attorney General might have felt in light of the false accusations. “I understand Dr. Ayine’s frustration, given that an impersonation account using my name and image made such offensive remarks about him. Sadly, there is little I can do about the existence or content of that account, which I do not control—though I truly wish I could,” A Plus wrote.
Reflecting on his own response to Dr. Ayine’s press conference, A Plus admitted that while he had authored a separate post in response to the Attorney General’s comments, he recognized that the tone and language used were inappropriate. “Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate,” he admitted. “I believe I could have made my point in a more respectful and constructive manner.”
As part of his apology, A Plus took full responsibility for his actions and deleted the post in question, stating that it was a rare move for him to remove content but felt it was necessary in this instance. He concluded by offering a heartfelt apology to Dr. Ayine, the public, the NDC party, and Parliament, acknowledging that his words had been undiplomatic and expressing regret for the unnecessary turmoil it had caused.
