Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament and outspoken public figure, has addressed recent controversy surrounding a viral video in which a Nigerian man, Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, claimed plans to establish an Igbo Kingdom in Ghana after allegedly purchasing land.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Mr. Ablakwa revealed that he personally invited Mr. Ihenetu for a meeting to clarify the issue and set the record straight.
According to Mr. Ihenetu, the video in question was actually an old interview from 2013—an ill-advised statement he deeply regrets. He confirmed that he has long abandoned any such plan and has not acquired land in Ghana for the establishment of an Igbo Kingdom.
In a gesture of goodwill, Mr. Ihenetu issued an unreserved apology to the President of Ghana, the government, traditional chiefs, and the people of Ghana for any distress or agitation his statements may have caused.
Mr. Ablakwa emphasized Ghana’s proud tradition of a warm, friendly, and peaceful foreign policy, which welcomes all Africans and people of African descent. He reiterated the country’s commitment to fostering Pan-African identity and global respect.
However, he also made it clear that all residents and visitors are expected to respect Ghana’s peaceful and law-abiding traditions, avoiding any divisive or inflammatory remarks.
The government has called for calm and restraint, reminding everyone of the strong and inseparable bond of friendship and brotherhood shared between Ghana and Nigeria.
In closing, Mr. Ablakwa urged citizens and the media alike to exercise caution in their commentary to prevent the situation from escalating into xenophobic tensions.
The MP ended his message with a hopeful note, celebrating the vibrant and enduring relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
