Abdul Karim Abubakari, a Board Member of the Students Loan Trust Fund, has declared his intention to contest the position of Northern Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), placing education, skills development and youth empowerment at the centre of his campaign.
Mr Abubakari made his intentions known at a press conference in Tamale, where he outlined what he described as a youth-focused approach to strengthening the party’s structures and expanding opportunities for young people in the region.
He said his decision was driven by a desire to contribute to the development of young people, particularly through education and skills training.
According to him, education should extend beyond formal academic institutions to include informal education and practical skills that can equip young people to participate meaningfully in the economy.
Mr Abubakari said the NDC had introduced opportunities for young people in education and skills development, but stressed the need for a strong youth structure capable of translating such opportunities into tangible outcomes.
He pledged that, if elected, youth development, education and skills training would be among his major priorities.
Unity becomes key campaign message
Beyond youth development, Mr Abubakari identified unity and grassroots mobilisation as central to his proposed leadership of the party’s youth wing in the Northern Region.
He said closer collaboration among regional executives, parliamentary candidates and grassroots members would be necessary to strengthen the party’s position across constituencies.
“I come on the front of unity. I believe that we can keep winning more of our seats on the back of unity,” he said.
He specifically mentioned Tolon, Karaga, Savelugu and Bimbilla as constituencies where he believes the party could work collectively to regain parliamentary seats.
He also called for strategic attention to constituencies currently held by the NDC, particularly those where the party’s winning margins are relatively narrow.
Mr Abubakari cited Yendi as one constituency requiring particular attention to consolidate the party’s position.
He said his proposed approach would therefore combine youth empowerment with grassroots mobilisation, party unity and constituency-specific strategies.
He expressed confidence that improved coordination and collective effort could strengthen the NDC’s presence across the Northern Region.
