Former Minister and Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has opened up about the unexpected demolition of her father’s transport company, Imperial Express, during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Speaking on The Pulse on Joy Prime, Adwoa Safo expressed deep disappointment over the incident, describing it as an unjust act that has left her family and many others embittered.
According to her, the demolition, led by then Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey, took place without prior notice.
“We woke up one morning, and to our utmost surprise, Honorable Henry Quartey brought a team with bulldozers—whether they were macho men, land guards, or whatever,” she recounted.
She revealed that Imperial Express, a successful transport business operating across Ghana and neighbouring countries, had legally leased the land for years and had consistently met all financial obligations. However, government officials justified the demolition by claiming the land was being reclaimed for a public project.
“They said there was an order from above that those lands were being recaptured for a government project. They pulled everything down without notice. And to date, there has not been any government project on that land,” she lamented.
Adwoa Safo also expressed frustration over the treatment of her family, especially considering her father’s long-standing loyalty and support for the NPP. She questioned why such an action was taken without due process, emphasizing the emotional and financial toll it had caused.
Her revelations add to the growing tensions within the NPP, as she continues to voice her grievances over what she sees as unfair treatment from her own party.
