Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged President John Dramani Mahama to put an end to what he describes as intimidation and harassment through National Security raids on the homes of former government officials.
His statement follows the latest security operation at the private residence of Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
The operation, reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, involved approximately 20 armed men, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles.
According to reports, the team stormed Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge home in Accra while he was present, disabled the CCTV system, and proceeded with a search of the premises.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, March 20, Afenyo-Markin strongly criticized the National Security raids, calling them abuses of executive power that must stop.
“President John Dramani Mahama, please leave a legacy. If there were excesses in the exercise of executive power, use this opportunity to correct them. We are tired of the intimidation, the attacks, and the hypocrisy.”
The Minority Leader further accused the security operatives of theft, alleging that they stole valuables, including cash and jewellery, during the raid.
Afenyo-Markin’s appeal adds to growing concerns about government crackdowns on former officials. He urged President Mahama to intervene and prevent further excesses, insisting that a democratic government must uphold due process and respect the rights of all citizens—regardless of political affiliations.
With rising tensions over the targeting of former government appointees, the Minority is now demanding greater transparency and accountability in National Security operations.
