The 2025 African Political Parties Summit has concluded in Accra with a resounding call for political leaders across the continent to embrace service to their people as the highest expression of politics.
Delivering the closing address at the Accra International Conference Centre on Thursday, August 14, National Chairman of Ghana’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, urged African political parties to go beyond rhetoric and make service their guiding principle.
“Politics at its best is service to the people,” he told delegates. “This summit will be remembered not only for Ghana’s hospitality, but also for setting in motion a process of political renewal and continental unity.”
The gathering, which began on August 12, brought together political parties from across Africa to share ideas, strengthen cross-border cooperation, and chart a common vision for democratic governance on the continent.
In an emotional moment, Mr. Asiedu Nketia thanked participants for their solidarity with Ghana during a period of national mourning following the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent public servants, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
The summit ended with a shared commitment to deepen collaboration among African political actors, enhance governance standards, and address the continent’s socio-economic challenges through collective action.
