Anthony Ahiable, Assembly Member for the Wawaso/Wawaboi Electoral Area, has retained his position as Presiding Member of the Kadjebi District Assembly after securing a near-unanimous vote in an election held at the Assembly Hall in the Oti Region.
Although he went into the contest unopposed, Mr. Ahiable’s leadership was strongly reaffirmed by Assembly Members, who endorsed him with 46 votes in favour and just one against out of 47 valid votes cast.
The election, conducted in accordance with the Local Governance Act following the formal constitution of the Assembly, was supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission led by Christian Bokode. The process was also observed by traditional leaders, departmental heads, and other stakeholders.
His re-election grants him another two-year term to continue steering proceedings of the Assembly.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Ahiable thanked members for their renewed confidence in his leadership, describing the outcome as a renewed responsibility rather than a personal victory.
He pledged to promote unity, inclusiveness, and fairness in the conduct of Assembly business, while encouraging cooperation among members to advance development in the district.
“The development of Kadjebi requires the collective effort of all stakeholders. I therefore call on my colleagues to work together in an atmosphere of cooperation, transparency and mutual respect,” he said.
Mr. Ahiable further assured members of his commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Assembly, traditional authorities, and residents to accelerate socio-economic development.
Several Assembly Members who spoke after the election expressed satisfaction with his leadership, citing his experience, approachability, and ability to maintain cordial relations within the Assembly.
They expressed optimism that his continued leadership would enhance unity and support the delivery of key development projects across the district.
The Kadjebi District Assembly is expected to prioritise development interventions in education, healthcare, road infrastructure, agriculture, and sanitation.
The election proceedings also featured the administration of the Oath of Secrecy, Oath of Office, and Oath of Allegiance by George Wellington Arhin, the Kadjebi District Magistrate.
