New Patriotic Party (NPP) National First Vice Chairman aspirant Richard Ahiagbah has downplayed a recent Global InfoAnalytics poll on the party’s vice-chairmanship contest, saying the decisive test will come when delegates cast their ballots.
The survey, released ahead of the NPP’s October 3 national executive elections, put Nana Akomea and Henry Nana Boakye at 19 per cent each, while Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and Kojo Fosu Boadu recorded 17 per cent each. The poll placed the remaining candidates, including Mr Ahiagbah, within the “others” category, which accounted for 26 per cent.
Mr Ahiagbah, who is also the party’s Director of Communications, dismissed the poll as part of the campaign process and said his attention remained on direct engagement with delegates.
“As for Mussa Dankwah, leave him alone. I mean, we know what he does is a transactional poll that he’s putting out. But we are focused. The real poll will be what we are going to get on Saturday,” he said.
He said his campaign was centred on persuading delegates to consider the broader strategic needs of the party, particularly the issue of regional balance in its leadership.
Mr Ahiagbah argued that his election would form part of an effort to broaden the NPP’s appeal beyond its traditional support base as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
“To bring Richard in for regional balance is to accept a certain strategy that gets us in a position where we target this minority vote. Our preoccupation now as a party is to win. It is not to vote for a person or for not for a person. It is to vote for people who can lead,” he said.
The vice-chairmanship contest is among several races to be decided at the NPP’s national executive elections, with 13 aspirants contesting the available positions. Mr Ahiagbah is listed fourth on the ballot, while Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid is first, Henry Nana Boakye ninth and Nana Akomea 12th.
Meanwhile, National Youth Organiser aspirant Clement Opoku Gyamfi, popularly known as CID, said the polling results had strengthened his resolve to intensify his campaign.
He said he would continue engaging delegates and working to secure their support ahead of Saturday’s election.
The Global InfoAnalytics survey was conducted among NPP delegates ahead of the October 3 polls, providing a snapshot of preferences rather than the actual election outcome.
