The Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Gaming Commission of Ghana, Lamtiig A. Apanga, has predicted a decisive victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, expressing confidence that the party’s candidate, Baba Jamal, could secure as much as 80 percent of the vote.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, March 3, Apanga described Ayawaso East as a traditional stronghold of the NDC and maintained that the party remains firmly positioned to retain the seat.
He noted that although by-elections typically record lower voter turnout, the margin of victory for Baba Jamal could be significant due to what he described as the candidate’s strong grassroots engagement and commitment to constituency development.
“Ayawaso East has been a safe seat for the NDC, and the party has held it over time quite well. What we may not see is very high voter turnout, but in terms of percentages, I won’t be surprised if Baba Jamal gets more than 80% of the vote because of the amount of work he has put in and his level of priority within the party and the constituency,” Apanga stated.
He added that expectations within the party suggest the candidate could even outperform projections, citing his visibility on the ground and active involvement in party structures.
Apanga’s optimism comes as fresh data from Global InfoAnalytics projects a commanding win for Baba Jamal in the by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The poll forecasts a 75 percent victory for the NDC candidate, reinforcing perceptions that the party is poised to maintain its dominance in the constituency.
With just hours to the polls, attention now turns to voter turnout levels and whether the final results will match the confident projections from party insiders and independent pollsters.
