Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, is urging Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs) to put aside their personal and political differences to ensure accelerated development in their respective districts.
His appeal follows growing reports of friction and rivalry between MPs and DCEs in the region — a situation he says is crippling local governance and slowing the delivery of essential projects.
Addressing journalists in Kumasi on Monday, October 6, 2025, Dr. Amoakohene said the lack of cooperation between the two key arms of local leadership is undermining the government’s vision for inclusive and coordinated development.
He lamented that political and personal tensions have spilled over into administrative functions, leading to delays in project execution, poor communication, and in some cases, deliberate obstruction of initiatives.
“The rivalry and the fact that they are not on very good terms will hinder the approval of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which is meant for the MPs, and some use that as a way to settle scores,” Dr. Amoakohene observed.
He further revealed that in some districts, MPs and DCEs barely engage each other on development plans, leading to duplication of efforts and waste of public resources. “In some cases, one side pretends not to be aware of initiatives from the other, which creates unnecessary confusion. For local governance to work, we must carry everyone along,” he stressed.
The Regional Minister emphasized that the ultimate victims of this turf war are ordinary citizens who depend on government projects for better living conditions. He called for dialogue, mutual respect, and a renewed commitment to teamwork, adding that development should never be sacrificed on the altar of political rivalry.
“Our focus must be on service delivery, not personal recognition or political competition,” he said, urging both MPs and DCEs to demonstrate maturity and unity in the service of their people.
