The Member of Parliament-elect for the Ayawaso East Constituency, Baba Jamal, will officially assume office on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, when he is sworn in by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
The swearing-in ceremony follows his victory in the March 3 by-election, where he secured the parliamentary seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Jamal announced the upcoming ceremony in a Facebook post on Monday, expressing gratitude to constituents for the trust placed in him and pledging to work diligently to advance development in the constituency.
“I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together with you to build a brighter and greater future for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” he wrote.
In the by-election, Mr Jamal won decisively with 10,884 votes, defeating the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yusif Ali Baba, who polled 4,009 votes.
Other contestants included independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda, who obtained 1,885 votes, while Ibrahim Idrissu secured 43 votes and Kanor David received 104 votes.
In total, 16,928 valid votes were cast in the election, with 120 ballots rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 17,048.
The by-election was organised to fill the vacancy created following the death of the constituency’s former MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in January.
With his swearing-in, Mr Jamal will formally take his seat in Parliament and begin representing the people of Ayawaso East in the legislature.
