Member of Parliament for Effiduase, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region to end internal divisions and rally behind the newly elected regional executives as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Dr Ayew Afriyie said the party’s recent regional elections should mark the beginning of a renewed effort to strengthen unity rather than create further divisions among members.
In a statement congratulating the new Ashanti Regional executives, he said the collective interests of the NPP must now take precedence over individual ambitions.
He particularly congratulated the newly elected Regional Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, and the other executives elected by delegates.
According to him, the outcome of the election reflected the democratic character of the NPP, but the internal contest must now be considered over as members turn their attention to the larger objective of returning the party to power.
“The Ashanti Region remains the engine of our party. I call upon party faithfuls across all levels to recognise the need for us to unite for victory 2028. The collective good of the NPP must supersede all individual interests at this moment,” he said.
The Effiduase MP stressed that the NPP’s quest to win the 2028 presidential election and secure victory for its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, would require the participation of both successful and unsuccessful candidates in the regional elections.
He urged those who lost their respective contests to continue contributing their experience, skills and ideas to the party, saying their involvement would be crucial to building a stronger campaign.
“Securing victory for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP in the 2028 presidential election demands the active contribution, talent, and dedication of both the victors and those who did not prevail,” he said.
Dr Ayew Afriyie said the Ashanti Region had historically played a significant role in the NPP’s electoral fortunes and therefore needed a united and resilient party structure ahead of the next election.
He called on party members at all levels to work closely with the newly elected executives and avoid actions that could undermine the party’s cohesion.
“We must, therefore, work shoulder-to-shoulder to present a formidable front ahead of 2028,” he added.
The MP expressed confidence that the NPP could regain power in 2028, arguing that developments under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration could create an opportunity for the opposition party.
He therefore urged NPP supporters to channel their energies into rebuilding the party and convincing Ghanaians that it was ready to govern again.
Dr Ayew Afriyie also congratulated all candidates who participated in the Ashanti Regional elections and appealed to them to support the new leadership in the interest of the party.
He said a united Ashanti NPP would be essential to the party’s broader objective of securing victory on December 7, 2028.
