Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has initiated civil proceedings against Akwatia MP Bernard Bediako Baidoo and broadcaster Abubakar Alhassan, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, over alleged false statements made against him.
In a statement dated Monday, September 28, the Manhyia South legislator said he had filed a Writ of Summons against the two individuals, whom he accused of making statements he considers false and damaging to his person.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah said he had opted to settle the matter through the civil courts rather than pursue criminal proceedings over the alleged publication of false information.
He described the decision as a deliberate choice to seek legal redress through the courts.
“Unlike the government, I have chosen the path of democrats, by seeking relief through civil court rather than pursuing criminal prosecution for the publication of false [news],” he said.
The lawsuit comes amid a broader dispute involving the alleged detention of Salomey Awiti Baffoe and Camilla Alhassan.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah alleged that the two women were in police custody and claimed that their detention formed part of attempts by state security agencies to intimidate him over his involvement in the matter.
He further alleged that Salomey Awiti Baffoe had been taken into custody by state security agents late on Saturday.
The MP maintained that the alleged developments would not deter him from pursuing the matter or advocating for the release of the two women.
He said his immediate focus remained on securing their liberty and ensuring their return to their families.
“I remain committed to fighting for Madam Salomey Awiti Bafoh’s liberty as well as Camilla Alhassan to ensure that they are reunited with their family who await their return,” he stated.
The claims contained in Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah’s statement have not been independently established, and the statement did not provide details of the specific allegedly false statements forming the basis of the Writ of Summons.
