Walewale, widely regarded as a symbolic political base because of its association with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, witnessed an unexpected surge of political excitement following a visit by Dr. Bryan Acheampong, as grassroots supporters and party delegates turned out in large numbers to welcome him.
According to a statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, the reception accorded Dr. Acheampong went beyond routine party courtesy, with enthusiastic chants and visible excitement underscoring growing interest in his leadership message. Supporters were said to have openly commended his organisational discipline, preparedness for national leadership and perceived capacity to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory in the 2028 general elections.
The statement suggested that the strong showing in Walewale pointed to a broader internal conversation within the party, with delegates increasingly evaluating leadership choices on the basis of credibility, performance and electoral appeal rather than long-standing allegiances.
During the engagement, Dr. Acheampong reportedly used the occasion to urge party faithful to close ranks and focus on rebuilding the NPP. He emphasised that unity, discipline and a renewed connection with the party’s grassroots base were essential if the party was to regain momentum and return to power.
