Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has lauded defender Wesley Fofana for his mental toughness following racial abuse online after the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Burnley FC in the English Premier League.
Fofana, who received a red card in that match, was absent when Chelsea conceded a last-minute equalizer in the 94th minute. Despite the incident on the pitch and the subsequent abuse on social media, Rosenior praised the French defender for maintaining focus and professionalism during training.
“It was a tough day for Wes. First for what happened in the game and the racist abuse he got online. It affects you in ways that shouldn’t exist. It’s something we have to try and eradicate from life and football. He is strong and has trained this week,” Rosenior said ahead of Chelsea’s league match against London rivals Arsenal on Sunday, March 1.
The manager also expressed excitement about Chelsea’s upcoming UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, highlighting the team’s focus on competing at the highest level despite recent challenges.
