Two men believed to be part of a carjacking syndicate have been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) following a violent robbery incident at Mpatasie, near Saint Anthony Hospital, in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, Issaka Jamal (30) and Kwadwo Badu (40), were captured after a high-speed chase and gunfire exchange on the Accra–Nsawam Highway.
According to police intelligence, the suspects had allegedly robbed a victim of his unregistered Hyundai Tucson at Mpatasie on November 7, 2025, before escaping towards Accra.
Acting swiftly on intelligence relayed from the Bohyen District Police, the CID launched a coordinated tracking operation across multiple regions. On November 8, a CID surveillance team spotted the stolen vehicle along the Ofankor Barrier–St. John’s stretch, with four occupants suspected to be linked to the robbery.
The suspects reportedly ignored police orders to stop and attempted to speed off, but were soon cornered. In a bid to evade arrest, they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting a pursuit that led to the arrest of Jamal and Badu.
Police confirmed that one of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound, while the other suffered minor injuries during the operation. They were both transported to the Police Hospital in Accra and are said to be in stable condition.
Two other accomplices, however, managed to escape and are currently being pursued by law enforcement agencies.
A police source disclosed that the operation led to the recovery of the stolen Hyundai Tucson, along with several items, including a customised number plate reading “Congo-1-24,” GH₵5,900 cash, and assorted personal effects.
The CID has since intensified efforts to track down the fleeing accomplices and dismantle what is suspected to be an inter-regional robbery network.
