The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has firmly dismissed reports suggesting it channelled GH¢12 million to sponsor the Ghana national football team, describing the claims as entirely unfounded.
In a strongly worded public notice, the Board rejected allegations that funds earmarked for cocoa farmers had been diverted to support the national team. It labelled the reports as “false, misleading, and without any factual basis,” stressing that no such financial commitment had been made.
“At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars,” the statement clarified, seeking to put to rest growing public speculation.
The clarification comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over public spending and the allocation of resources to national programmes. COCOBOD emphasised that its operations remain strictly aligned with its core mandate — ensuring prompt payment for cocoa purchases, providing essential farm inputs and extension services, and sustaining long-term investment in Ghana’s cocoa sector.
By publicly addressing the issue, the Board sought to reassure stakeholders, particularly cocoa farmers, that their welfare remains its top priority. It also urged the public to disregard the circulating claims and rely solely on official COCOBOD communication channels for accurate and verified information.
The denial underscores COCOBOD’s effort to protect public confidence in the management of funds within one of Ghana’s most critical agricultural sectors.
