Mr. Collins Asomah has been unanimously confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Berekum West, following a successful vote by the 27-member Assembly in a special election held in Jinijini, the district capital. The election, supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission, saw Mr. Asomah receive 100 percent of the vote, reflecting the Assembly’s complete support for his nomination.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Asomah expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming trust placed in him by the Assembly Members (AMs), vowing to serve the district with humility, integrity, and dedication. He thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to contribute to the development of Berekum West and also expressed appreciation to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their support.
Mr. Asomah emphasized the importance of unity in driving progress for the district, urging all stakeholders—including traditional leaders and Assembly Members—to work together for the common good of the community. He called on the people to set aside political differences and focus on tackling the district’s growing development challenges.
The Bono Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Addai Akwaboa, also congratulated Mr. Asomah on his confirmation, stressing the need for him to work diligently to deliver on the expectations of the people. He encouraged the new DCE to prioritize transparency, highlighting the government’s commitment to combating corruption and illegal mining, which remains a significant issue in the area.
Mr. Akwaboa further issued a stern warning to illegal miners operating within the district, stressing that those found engaging in such activities would face prosecution. He urged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspected illegal mining to the authorities, ensuring a collective effort to preserve the district’s resources and maintain law and order.
As Mr. Asomah takes on this pivotal role, the people of Berekum West are hopeful that his leadership will bring lasting development and foster a spirit of collaboration across all sectors of society.
