Nine individuals facing charges in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been granted bail by the court as legal proceedings continue.
The accused persons, who have all pleaded not guilty, were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. While the sureties are not required to justify their assets, they must complete and sign bail justification forms in accordance with the court’s directives.
The nine are facing five charges, including possession and use of offensive weapons, unlawful discharge of firearms in public, causing unlawful damage, and offences related to the prohibition of vigilante groups.
Among those standing trial are Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, brother of the injured former legislator, as well as Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom.
The case stems from a shooting incident that occurred during an event linked to the Kristo Asafo Mission, which has been at the centre of a leadership dispute following the death of its founder, Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred amid activities surrounding a contested installation process within the mission and resulted in injuries to Ms. Adwoa Safo. Some of the accused are alleged to have served as personal security personnel for Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.
With the accused now on bail, the court is expected to continue hearing the matter while investigations and prosecution efforts proceed.
