The Court of Appeal has failed to reach a decision on the State’s application for a stay of execution in the case involving former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, resulting in the matter being adjourned indefinitely.
A three-member panel made up of Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko-Essah, Justice Dr Ernest Owusu-Dapaa and Justice Ayitey Armah-Tetteh heard submissions from both the prosecution and the defence before retiring to deliberate on the application.
After spending about two hours in chambers, the judges returned to the courtroom and announced that they had been unable to arrive at a decision on the State’s request. The panel subsequently adjourned the matter indefinitely without setting a date for the delivery of its ruling.
The State is asking the Court of Appeal to grant a stay of execution while it pursues the substantive appeal in the high-profile corruption case involving the former MASLOC Chief Executive.
The application forms part of the ongoing appellate proceedings following legal developments in the case, which has continued to attract widespread public interest.
Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in April 2024 on multiple corruption-related offences, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing and money laundering. She was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
She was extradited from the United States to Ghana in June 2026 to begin serving her prison sentence after years of legal proceedings.A suitable headline for this version is: “Court of Appeal Deadlocked on State’s Bid to Stay Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu Sentence.”
