The Obuasi High Court has affirmed the election of Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani as Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa, bringing an end to an eight-month legal battle that followed the 2024 general elections.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Justice Kwabena Twumasi dismissed the petition filed by former Trade and Industry Minister, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, and awarded costs of ¢60,000 against him. The court cited what it described as “time-wasting conduct” after Hammond failed to appear for three consecutive sittings.
Dorani, who contested on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), unseated the long-serving New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator by 954 votes, securing 14,229 ballots against Hammond’s 13,275. The loss marked the end of Hammond’s two-decade hold on the Adansi Asokwa seat.
Counsel for Dorani, Richard Andy, welcomed the decision, stressing that the petition lacked merit. He said the ruling gives his client the opportunity to fully focus on delivering development promises to constituents without the distraction of a prolonged court process.
With the case settled, Dorani is now set to consolidate his position in Parliament and strengthen the NDC’s foothold in a constituency long regarded as an NPP stronghold.
