The Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), in partnership with Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, has officially launched the sixth edition of the PruRide cycling championship — with a sharpened focus on sustainability, healthy lifestyles, and environmental consciousness.
This year’s theme, “Ride not just for fitness, but for the future; let’s pedal with purpose, lead with vision, and inspire change,” reflects the organisers’ determination to position cycling as both a personal wellness activity and a national call to action on climate change and sustainable mobility.
At the launch event, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana CEO, Madam Jane Dornukuor Mingle, emphasised that the PruRide initiative goes beyond sports. She described it as a movement to promote active transportation, reduce carbon emissions, and create a deeper sense of community responsibility.
“PruRide isn’t just about racing or winning. It’s about encouraging everyone—families, individuals, corporate institutions—to consider cycling as a sustainable, everyday alternative that benefits both the body and the planet,” she said.
Madam Dornukuor noted that cycling supports cardiovascular health, reduces stress, and improves mental wellness. It also fosters environmental sustainability by offering a low-emission mode of transport, contributing to the fight against climate change.
GCF Secretary General, Mr. Mohammed Shabban, expressed gratitude to Prudential Life Insurance Ghana for its consistent support since 2014, saying the long-standing partnership has elevated the profile of cycling in Ghana.
He also thanked Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, for gracing the occasion and reiterated the Federation’s commitment to delivering a successful event.
The launch drew a cross-section of stakeholders including Madam Gifty Owusu, Head of Sustainability at Prudential, Nana Adu Mankatta II, a GOC board member, and officials from the National Sports Authority. Their presence underscored the growing recognition of cycling as a tool for national development.
The PruRide championship continues to expand its relevance—not only as a sporting fixture but as a catalyst for healthier lifestyles, greener choices, and national dialogue on environmental stewardship.
