Ghana’s top golfer, Daniel List, has called for increased investment in golf, emphasizing that the country has the raw talent and environment to produce world-class players.
Speaking during a press engagement, List acknowledged Ghana’s deep-rooted passion for football but insisted that golf has the potential to thrive if given the right resources, facilities, and funding.
“Ghana is known for producing incredible athletes despite having limited resources. With the right investment in golf infrastructure, we can see more Ghanaians competing on the global stage,” he said.
List stressed the importance of upgrading and maintaining golf courses to meet international standards, stating that Ghana could match the quality of courses in the U.S. and Europe with the right financial backing.
“Our facilities have improved over time, but there’s still a long way to go. Investing in course maintenance and development will help create an environment where more players can excel,” he noted.
Highlighting Ghana’s athletic potential, List expressed confidence that Ghanaians could succeed in golf if given the right training and exposure.
“Genetically, Ghanaians have what it takes to excel in almost any sport. It’s not a question of talent but opportunity,” he remarked.
Veteran Ghanaian golfer Vincent Torgah echoed List’s sentiments, urging corporate bodies and sports authorities to recognize golf’s potential and invest in its growth.
As part of his efforts to promote and develop golf in Ghana, List revealed plans to expand initiatives under the Daniel List Foundation, which focuses on nurturing young talent, providing training opportunities, and improving facilities.
With increased attention and investment, Ghana could soon emerge as a force in international golf, paving the way for a new generation of elite golfers.
