Three hundred and fifty students from the Dome-Kwabenya constituency are set to receive financial and educational assistance to ease the cost of transitioning from basic school to Senior High School (SHS).
The initiative, spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Elikplim Akurugu, provides each beneficiary with a package of essential educational materials, GH¢1,000 in financial support and free registration under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The educational package includes books, calculators and other stationery, alongside sanitary products for female students.
The GH¢1,000 cash support is expected to help families meet some of the immediate expenses associated with preparing their children for SHS, particularly at a time when the transition to secondary education can place additional financial demands on households.
The beneficiaries will also be enrolled onto the NHIS at no cost, providing them with access to healthcare as they commence their secondary education.
The intervention is intended to address some of the practical and financial challenges families face when their children progress to SHS, while ensuring that students have basic learning materials before reporting to their respective schools.
The support also places emphasis on the welfare of students beyond academic preparation, with the provision of sanitary products and health insurance forming part of the package.
Through the initiative, the Dome-Kwabenya MP is seeking to provide direct assistance to families and help students begin their secondary education with the essential resources they need.
