Former Auditor-General and key member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has urged Ghanaians to prioritize due process over immediate calls for arrests and prosecutions following the submission of the ORAL report to the President.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, Domelevo emphasized that the report serves as a fact-finding tool rather than an immediate trigger for legal action. He stressed the necessity of further legal and financial evaluations to ensure airtight cases before any prosecution is pursued.
Addressing public anticipation for swift action, Domelevo cautioned against hasty moves that could weaken the legal process in court. “People are eager to know when arrests or prosecutions will take place, but it is premature at this stage. We must ensure that all aspects, including compliance with financial regulations and value-for-money audits, are thoroughly examined,” he explained.
He revealed that discussions with the Attorney-General (AG) have reinforced this approach, with both parties agreeing on the need to leverage additional audits for a stronger legal footing. Domelevo stressed that the Auditor-General must be given space to conduct necessary assessments, including identifying any financial losses and applying his constitutional mandate to disallow and surcharge where necessary.
His remarks underline the need for patience and a methodical process to ensure accountability without jeopardizing the integrity of legal proceedings.
