The Dormaa West District Assembly says it is stepping up development projects across health, education, roads, agriculture, and housing following a significant increase in its District Assembly Common Fund allocation.
Speaking at the “Accounting to the People” forum in Nkrankwanta, District Chief Executive Mr Stephen Azorba Awuni disclosed that the Assembly received GHC9,021,729.54 from the DACF in 2025, describing it as a major boost for local development.
According to him, the increased allocation reflects government’s commitment to strengthening decentralised governance and improving service delivery at the district level.
Mr Awuni said part of the funds are being directed into key social infrastructure, including the completion of a Community-based Health Planning and Services compound at Dormaa Agogo and the construction of classroom blocks at Appiakrom, Addokrom, and Nnobem.
He also announced that construction is expected to begin on an 80-unit district housing project aimed at addressing accommodation challenges for public sector workers and other essential service providers.
On road infrastructure, the DCE said work was progressing on the Nkrankwanta-Dormaa-Ahenkro road, which is expected to be completed within 18 months to improve transport, trade, and economic activity.
Agriculture and youth employment were also highlighted as key priorities. Mr Awuni said 20,000 coconut seedlings had been distributed to farmers, while 42 livestock farmers had benefited from the distribution of 84 goats through the Business Advisory Centre.
He added that 10,000 chicks had also been supplied to farmers under the Nkoko Nketenkete programme, while 204 young people had been trained and enrolled under various modules through the Youth Employment Agency.
Despite these gains, Mr Awuni acknowledged that the Assembly still faces challenges including inadequate infrastructure, weak revenue mobilisation, and limited logistics for monitoring projects.
He, however, assured residents that the Assembly would continue to use the DACF prudently and work with stakeholders to address the district’s development needs.
Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa commended the Assembly for the initiatives, describing them as important steps towards improving the living conditions of residents across Dormaa West.
