Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Ayew Afriyie, has dismissed speculation linking him to moves to support a challenger against Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Chairman Coka.
Reports had suggested that Henry Kwabena Kokofu is preparing to contest the position, with claims circulating that some influential party figures, including Dr Afriyie, may be backing his bid.
However, the MP has strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless and the product of misinformation being circulated on social media.
In a reaction posted online, he stressed that he maintains a cordial relationship with Chairman Coka and has no involvement in any attempt to sponsor or influence a rival candidacy against him.
He further argued that internal party contests are a normal part of democratic practice and should not be misinterpreted as personal hostility or political scheming.
Referencing broader political contests within the party, he noted that even senior figures have previously faced competition in internal elections, insisting that such processes are healthy for democracy.
Dr Afriyie also took a swipe at anonymous accounts spreading the claims, dismissing them as “cowardly” and urging individuals making accusations to do so openly rather than anonymously.
He maintained that Chairman Coka remains his colleague and friend, adding that any suggestion of a fallout between them is unfounded.
