Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, John Dramani Mahama has used his Easter message to call on world leaders to embrace dialogue and de-escalation, stressing the need to uphold human dignity in times of conflict.
Delivering his message at the Black Star Square on April 3, 2026, the President linked the spiritual significance of Easter to the current global climate, urging reflection on peace, compassion, and reconciliation.
He expressed concern over the continued violence in the Middle East, particularly in the Holy Land, describing it as deeply troubling given its religious importance as the birthplace of Christianity. He noted that the ongoing conflict, which continues to claim innocent lives, stood in stark contrast to the teachings of love and forgiveness associated with Jesus Christ.
Referencing biblical teachings, President Mahama emphasised that the Easter message must resonate even in conflict zones, calling for leaders and nations to act as peacemakers in line with Christian values.
He extended prayers for stability across the region, mentioning countries such as Israel, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran, while urging a collective commitment to peace.
Reaffirming Ghana’s stance, he said the country remained committed to promoting peaceful coexistence and resolving disputes through dialogue rather than violence.
The President’s remarks come at a time of heightened global concern over instability in the Middle East, with increasing calls from the international community for diplomatic solutions and an end to hostilities.
