The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a large-scale intervention aimed at improving power stability across the Ashanti Region, following recent concerns over fluctuations and low voltage in several communities.
The initiative includes the installation of 300 new distribution transformers to replace overloaded equipment that has contributed to inconsistent electricity supply in affected areas. The upgrades are expected to begin rolling out from May 6.
Speaking to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer for ECG’s Ashanti West Region, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, said the project forms part of a broader investment drive valued at over GH¢1.1 billion to strengthen the region’s power infrastructure.
He explained that the expansion is intended to bring immediate relief to households and businesses experiencing unstable electricity supply, while also boosting long-term network capacity.
“We want to assure our cherished customers that there is no need for panic,” he said, adding that ECG is undertaking major system upgrades to improve service delivery.
He further noted that the ongoing work includes conductor upgrades to enhance transmission efficiency and reduce pressure on existing infrastructure.
According to ECG, the intervention aligns with government’s renewed focus on improving power supply reliability in the Ashanti Region, as highlighted in recent energy sector briefings.
The company says the broader programme is part of efforts to ensure a more stable and efficient electricity distribution network across the region.
